Valero-Ecia mortar 50 mm

The light mortar of 50 mm. Valero-Ecia mod. 40 and the similar mod. 42, was a curious weapon, a cross between the classic Valero and the Italian Brixia model 35 from which the assembly was taken, which allowed both the curved shot (typical of mortar), and the tense shot, known as flush, in that case, it could be used against armored vehicles using a hollow charge grenade capable of piercing 50 mm and with an effective range of 150 meters. The rate of fire, which varies according to the degree of instruction of his servants, is between 5 and 10 grenades per minute in low firing, and 10 and 15 in curved firing. The mounting or mounting was somewhat cumbersome (two front legs and two rear legs joined together by crossbars and tie rods, a cradle for the tube and the aiming mechanisms) but it had a small auxiliary base that allowed it to be used in the manner of the current \"Comando\" mortars without any assembly (it was foreseen in the event of the normal stock being rendered useless or when the dimensions of the settlement were reduced). In order to improve stability, it had a brake-recuperator system arranged on both sides of the tube, an atypical feature in mortars of this caliber. A double system of friction brakes and clutches independent the turns of the weapon and the angles of fire. In this way the grenades could always be easily flared and slid into the tube from a sitting or kneeling position behind the mortar. Although the tube could easily be separated from the rest of the mortar, it could also be folded while keeping it assembled. The Valero model 1942 50 mm light mortar replaced the model 1932 in the infantry companies in the post-war period, being used in the Ifni-Sahara conflict (1957-1958), remaining operational in the specialty companies of the Armed Police Flags until the 70s.
